IN CASE OF EMERGENCY: HOW TO CONTACT A FAMILY MEMBER WITHOUT DIALING A NUMBER

It just occurred to me that I should write about EMERGENCY CONTACT FEATURE on our mobile device because of Iniubong Umoren’s incident.

There are situations you could be involved in an ugly situation that you wish you can just make one phone call to a friend, but you cannot.

Ever thought about what might happen if you were in a bad fall, car accident, or other emergency situation that left you unable to communicate with a family member or loved one.

Technology has provided us with various options to make our lives much safer. There is a technology feature called “IN CASE OF EMERGENCY” built into our phones but rarely used by many.

If you activate IN CASE OF EMERGENCY” functionality in your mobile device, it can come in handy in times of emergency.

HOW IT WORKS:
When you activate it on your device, you can set up to 3 mobile numbers and enable various emergency options for the numbers.

To trigger the emergency action, you do not need to make a call, depending on how you configured it, you just need to fast-press your power button 3 times and the EMERGENCY FEATURE does the rest.

For instance, in my own case, I have added 3 numbers: my brother, my girlfriend, and my friend.

I have enabled the Emergency feature to:
1. Ring all my emergency contacts simultaneously.

2. Send a message to my emergency contacts with a message, “I am in danger, please find me”

3. Send my actual location to my emergency contacts — this will send a google map ID of my current location immediately.

ANOTHER SECURITY FEATURE:
There is security software that can be installed on your mobile device. If you have set shutdown security on your phone, the phone will prompt the user to enter a password or roll his fingerprint before shutting down.

Once a shutdown is initiated with a wrong password or an attempt to forcefully shut down the phone is made, the security software will discreetly take a photo of the person holding the phone (just like the camera on an ATM machine) and send the picture to designated cloud storage or email account.

With the above, your emergency contacts can quickly alert the security agency with the details given by the EMERGENCY FEATURE:

1. Your location can be mapped by the security agency.

2. The photo of your traducer can be seen.

HOW TO ACTIVATE EMERGENCY CONTACT IN ANDROID:

Here’s how to set up the emergency SOS feature on a Samsung smartphone (some steps may differ depending on the Android OS version):

• Pull down your notification bar and open Settings.
• Scroll down and select “Advanced features.”
• At the bottom of the menu, find “Send SOS messages.”
• Toggle it on and choose your emergency contacts (who will receive the message).
• Now toggle the indicators next to “Attach pictures” and “Attach audio recording.”

Now the SOS emergency contact feature is all set up. When the user clicks the power button three times, their emergency contacts receive an SOS message, links to a map and the audio clip, as well as front and rear photos so you can instantly take action to get them the help they need.

HOW TO ACTIVATE EMERGENCY CONTACT IN IPHONE:

Open the Health app and tap your profile picture.
· Tap Medical ID.
· Tap Edit and then scroll to Emergency Contacts.
· Tap the add button to add an emergency contact.
· Tap a contact, then add their relationship.
· Tap Done to save your changes.

Please note:

You must have a data subscription in your SIM to allow for the multimedia file to be sent.
